Dr. Abbott was invited to speak at the 2015 West China Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Week, Dept of Anesthesiology, West China Hospital, in Chengdu, China. Following this, lab alumnus Dr. Zhaoyang Hu gave Dr. Abbott a guided tour of Chengdu and surrounding area including fantastic Szechuan restaurants, and also of Lhasa, Tibet, after a two-day train ride on the high elevation Qinghai–Tibet railway.
Dr. Abbott visited Associate Professor Zhaoyang Hu's laboratory in West China Hospital, Sichuan University, and also the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, Mount Qingcheng, the historic Dujiangyan Irrigation System and the highly impressive Leshan Giant Buddha.
Dr. Abbott was invited by Dr. Dierk Thomas to speak at the Heidelberg Ion Channels Conference 2015. This was a wonderful conference covering ion channel function and disease with an emphasis on cardiovascular channels, with excellent hosts and held near the Old Town in beautiful Heidelberg.
